Series 01
Planning Around the Range
Everything that has to be settled on paper before a cabinetmaker cuts an opening for a professional range.
A range is the one appliance in the kitchen that the room is built around rather than the other way round. Its width sets the cabinet run, its clearances set what may stand beside it, its fuel sets the circuit or the pipe, and its depth decides whether anyone will ever be able to pull it forward again. Each of those is cheap to change on a drawing and expensive to change in stone.
This series is written for the people making those decisions — the designer, the cabinetmaker, the builder — and for the owner who has to referee between them. Every page ends with a Spec check: the handful of numbers to confirm against the installation instructions for the exact model, before anybody orders anything.

Spec check
Confirm each of these before anything is cut, ordered or delivered.
- The model number of the range that has actually been ordered, not the series name
- The installation instructions for that model, downloaded and to hand on site
- Who owns each number: the cabinetmaker, the plumber, the electrician or the installer
- Whether the opening was measured at the back as well as at the front
