Series 02

Panels, Doors and Reveals

Custom fronts look like joinery and behave like engineering. What the panel weighs, where the door swings, and what it costs you in service access.

A panel-ready installation asks the cabinetmaker for a door and the appliance for a hinge, and the two only agree if somebody checks. Panels have weight limits. Doors need somewhere to swing that is not a wall. A flush inset reveal that looks perfect on the drawing can make a unit impossible to pull without taking the trim off first.

These pages are about the decisions that get made once and live for twenty years. None of them is difficult; all of them are permanent. The Spec check on each page is the short list to settle with the joiner before the panel is cut.
