Viking Appliance Repair in Sunnyside, Denver

Sunnyside is where one lot turns into two houses. The new pairs going up between the older cottages are sold finished, and finished includes the appliances: the range, the hood, the dishwasher and the refrigeration were all picked by somebody who was never going to cook on them. That is not a complaint. It does mean the first person to read those model numbers carefully is usually the owner, sometimes years later, with a fault in front of them.

$89 on the visit, taken off an approved repair · out 8 am until 8 pm, weekends included

Housing stock

Half-duplex

One side of a pair of attached houses raised on a single former lot, sharing a party wall and usually sold as two separate homes. Each half has its own meter, its own panel and its own appliance package, even though both were specified at once.

The model number is the first repair

A builder's package is a specification rather than a brand. Two houses on the same street can be handed over with different generations of what looks like the same appliance, and a part that suits one of them will not suit the other. Before anything is ordered, find the model and the serial number for the unit actually installed, and keep them somewhere better than the drawer they arrived in. The handover pack normally carries both, and so does the appliance's own data plate. Quoting those two numbers on the phone is what separates one visit from two.

A party wall sends the duct somewhere else

In a detached house a hood usually takes the shortest way out, through whichever exterior wall is nearest. In half of a duplex that wall is often the shared one, so the run turns and climbs instead, and what finally reaches open air is longer than a straight push through a side wall would have been. Nothing is wrong with the appliance when that shows up as weak extraction. It means a ventilation complaint here starts with the route and not with the blower, so where the duct goes, how many turns it takes and where it terminates are worth establishing before anyone prices a bigger hood.

Year-one faults are usually commissioning

On equipment this new, what brings us out is rarely wear. It is the last hour of the installation: a range levelled to the subfloor and left alone when the finished floor went down, a water line pinched behind refrigeration that was pushed home hard, a drain hose run without the loop its instructions asked for, a panel gap set once and never reset. All of that is quick to put right and easy to mistake for a defective machine. While the house is still inside its first year, ask the builder what the handover covered before anyone else opens anything.

Spec check

Confirm each of these before anything is cut, ordered or delivered.

  1. The model and serial number of every Viking appliance in the package, read off the unit rather than the sales brochure
  2. Where the hood duct goes once it leaves the cabinet, how many turns it makes, and where it terminates
  3. Whether the range was re-levelled after the finished floor went down
  4. What the builder's handover covers, who registered the appliances, and where that paperwork is now

  • The undercounter unit in our pop-top island quit cooling weeks after the remodel finished. Drywall dust had packed the condenser and choked its fan. Cleaned out, fan freed, and it holds temperature now.

  • Two back burners had stopped sparking entirely. Not the module another company blamed — the harness plug behind the manifold had backed out and corroded. He reseated and sealed it, then tested every burner twice.

  • Door would not stay shut, so the cycle cancelled itself minutes in. The latch strike had worn oval and the catch no longer held. He replaced both and adjusted the panel front to match.
