Viking Appliance Repair in Mayfair, Denver
Mayfair is low brick houses on wide lots, most of them built in the years after the war and most of them now on a second or third kitchen. The room usually gets opened into the dining side and fitted out well. What tends not to get opened is the electrical service, and that is the thing a dual fuel range asks a question of.
Housing stock
Post-war ranch
A single-storey house from the late 1940s and 1950s, long and low on a wide lot, built with a compact kitchen and an electrical service sized for the appliances and the wiring practice of that period.
Dual fuel is two supplies, not one
A dual fuel range cooks on gas and heats its oven electrically, which is exactly why people choose one and exactly what catches an older house out. It wants a gas connection and a circuit of its own at the rating printed in that model's installation instructions. An electrician reads the rating, looks at the existing service and says whether the panel has room or whether the service itself needs work. That is a yes-or-no answer, and it is worth having before a model is chosen rather than after it is delivered.
The panel is the long pole
Where a service has to be upgraded, that is utility work and permit work as well as electrician's work, and it does not move at the speed of a kitchen fit-out. Learning it in week one costs a phone call. Learning it in week nine costs the schedule. If the plan also adds an induction cooktop, a wall oven, outdoor equipment or a car charger, have the lot counted together, because each one on its own may pass where all of them will not.
What the older wiring behind the counter will allow
Beyond the range itself, kitchens in houses of this age often run a great deal of modern equipment off circuits laid in when a kitchen held a refrigerator and a toaster. That is not a fault, it is an inventory question: what sits on each circuit now, and what the remodel intends to add. An electrician answering it early usually finds the cheapest version of the answer, because the walls are open anyway.
Spec check
Confirm each of these before anything is cut, ordered or delivered.
- The electrical rating in the installation instructions for the exact range model under consideration
- Whether the existing service and panel can carry it, answered by an electrician before the order
- Everything else the remodel adds to that service, counted together rather than one item at a time
- Whether the gas connection and the outlet sit where the range can still be drawn forward

Burners tipped yellow and sooted the copper hood after our remodel. The installer had never fitted the high-altitude orifices. He swapped them, reset the air shutters, and the flames burn blue again.

Glassware came out chalky white no matter what we tried. Scale off our hard water had coated the heater and half-blocked the lower arm. Both cleared. It took two visits to get there.
Dexter A.Cherry Creek
Our fridge alarmed at two in the morning, flashing a light nobody could explain. A door switch stuck half-closed had it convinced the door was open. Swapped out, and we slept.

A question now is cheaper than a change order later
$89 buys the visit and a complete diagnosis, and it comes straight off the bill once you approve a repair. Nothing gets ordered and nothing gets fitted until the number is in front of you.
