Viking Appliance Repair in Aurora

On the south-east side of Aurora the subdivisions are recent enough that the professional appliances came with the houses rather than being added later. A plan drawn once is built many times, so the same cabinet run, the same vent route and the same appliance sizes turn up street after street. That is useful: what one kitchen teaches about access and airflow tends to hold for the next one along.

$89 on the visit, taken off an approved repair · out 8 am until 8 pm, weekends included

Seven-knob stainless range in dark cabinets under speckled granite seen from above, the front-left burner stripped to its base and orifice with the cap lying flat on the cooktop, and an oven rack resting on the open door with a towel and a wrench

Housing stock

Production-plan kitchen

A kitchen built to a drawing repeated across a whole subdivision, so the cabinet layout, the duct route and the size of every opening are the same in many houses, and the appliance package was chosen once for all of them.

What repeats in one house repeats next door

A repeated plan is a gift to anyone designing a change. The constraint that stops a wider range in one kitchen — the run of cabinets to the corner, the wall the duct has to reach, the circuit the panel can spare — is the same constraint two doors down, and a neighbour who has already rebuilt has effectively tested it. Look at what was possible there before drawing what is wanted here, then confirm it against the actual house rather than against the brochure.

Going wider moves five other things

The change most often drawn into these kitchens is a wider range than the plan allowed, and width is only the first number. The cabinet run loses a section, the countertop is cut or replaced, the hood above has to cover the new span, the duct may have to move with it, and the circuit or the gas has to suit whatever is chosen. None of that is difficult when it is drawn together. It becomes expensive when the appliance is ordered first and the room is asked to catch up.

The hood the package came with

Ventilation is the part of a builder's package most often outgrown once somebody starts cooking seriously on the range. If that is what has happened, the numbers to read are the ones in the installation instructions for the range and for the hood, not the ones on a showroom card, and the duct already in the ceiling decides how much of it is achievable. Confirm what is actually in the cabinet before a replacement is specified.

Spec check

Confirm each of these before anything is cut, ordered or delivered.

  1. The exact model of the range and of the hood above it, as installed rather than as listed
  2. Where the hood duct runs once it leaves the cabinet, and where it terminates
  3. The width of the cabinet run either side of the range, measured to the wall
  4. Which circuit the range is on, and what else shares it

  • Our fridge alarmed at two in the morning, flashing a light nobody could explain. A door switch stuck half-closed had it convinced the door was open. Swapped out, and we slept.

  • Glassware came out chalky white no matter what we tried. Scale off our hard water had coated the heater and half-blocked the lower arm. Both cleared. It took two visits to get there.

  • Freezer drawer never sat flush, so frost crept over everything inside. A bent glide on one side and a torn drawer gasket. Both sorted and it seals properly. Docked a star for the ten-day wait.
